It's been, basically, a couple of years since we've lost monetization on our YouTube channel, because of YouTube's revised threshold--You must have:
1. At least 1,000 subscribers, AND
2. At least 4,000 watch hours
When I was uploading today's video, I glanced at my Analytics. I was curious to see how many more subscribers and watch hours that I need to hit that threshold. Here's a screenshot:
Now, that's not saying that we're desperate for views and monetization. In fact, we've found other ways of staying afloat. However, back then, when we had monetization, it DID pay for stuff that we needed, such as one or two pieces of equipment. That was part of how I was able to buy the new microphone for my recordings and voiceovers--it was because I was able to save enough money from the videos I would make.
Now, telling by the numbers that I've put on screen, it's still not much, since I've lasted check. Even though I've now hit 400 subs, I still need more to go, if I want to hit 1,000. However, if you've watched the end of my video on the Bad Apple cameo, I said that I would make a gaming channel, if I reached 500 subs (I'm NOT backing out on my promise, by the way).
So, this is something that I've been thinking about for a while. It would be nice to get monetization back on the channel, because for the most part: it seemed unfair at first, because we've been a good sport in all this, and we always follow YouTube's guidelines, and pretty much all of our videos are considered family-friendly at best.
But anyway, this was a quick update on how the channel is doing. And I hope that someday, we can get monetization back.
