LBF Throwback Thursday: How I Met LarryBoy

Hey, guys! This is the LarryBoy Fanatic!

I promised you guys a story for Throwback Thursday, and here it is! Though, to be fair, I may have touched on it in my article on Vocal, which I'll leave a link below. But today, I'm going to go into depth on how I was actually introduced to the superhero LarryBoy. So, here I go!

Love at Pay-Per-View
The story takes place back when I was ten years old.
I remember that we used to order Pay-Per-View movies on DirecTV (Believe me; we've have DirecTV for years). I remember seeing movies like Iron Giant on Pay-Per-View, so that's part of how I remember this.
Anyway, there was one time that DirecTV was doing a Pay-Per-View thing for VeggieTales, where they showed three different specials/videos, and one of them happened to be LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows.
Now, I don't know what possessed us to tune in to the Angry Eyebrows episode, but it happened--I guess we were looking for something to watch; I mean, we've watched a lot of TV back in my childhood. I was always watching cartoons and kids' shows.
So, we watched Angry Eyebrows, and for some reason, something made me say, "Can we watch it again?"
And my grandma would be like "Okay, but one more time." (Because mind you, this was a Pay-Per-View video, so watching the movie several more times would've racked up the DirecTV bill.)
I can't explain it, but something got me hooked to this superhero. Really, a hero with plungers for ears, an interesting similarity to Batman (you know, the fact that he has a butler like Batman does, as well as a secret lair), and just the overall personality of LarryBoy--he's funny, he's entertaining... very charming, when you think about it.

Always on My Mind
That day had changed my life, because I couldn't stop thinking about LarryBoy. He was always on my mind after that.
I remember the next day when I was sitting at the kitchen table, and I was drawing a picture of LarryBoy. It wasn't a perfect drawing of him, but people around me were able to guess who he was, because we had sat and watched the video together the day before. I was there with a bunch of markers, and coloring in his costume purple and yellow.

The next time I had ran into LarryBoy was at a store. (I forgot what store it was; it was probably one of the shops at the Quarry--for those of you who don't know, I'm talking about the Quarry Marketplace in San Antonio, TX., where it used to be some kind of factory--that's why you see the smoke stacks from years before.) I was in a store, and I saw two episodes of LarryBoy the Cartoon Adventures (Angry Eyebrows and Leggo My Ego) on display.
Grandma saw me looking at those videos, and she asked something like, "That's the guy you saw on TV that one time?"
And I nodded.
Well, I wasn't able to buy the videos then and there, because one: I was still a kid, so how on Earth was I going to pay for it? And two: I was afraid to ask my grandma to get them for me, because we were always on a tight budget.

We Meet Again, LarryBoy...
Now, for this next part of the story, I'm eleven years old.
I remember being at home, and my grandma had just gotten back from the thrift store, because she carried this big red shopping bag (I could tell that it wasn't a grocery bag, because it would've said HEB on it) into the living room. Then, she carefully dumped out a bunch of VHS tapes of VeggieTales videos; and, to my amazement, two of the tapes were LarryBoy and the Fib from Outer Space and LarryBoy and the Rumor Weed.
I can honestly say that I had met my hero again.
So, I begged my grandma to watch LarryBoy and the Fib from Outer Space first, because it had my hero in it. I remember being so happy after that. From that day on, I was the proud owner of two LarryBoy VHS tapes, until some time later when I became the proud owner of LarryBoy DVDs (which I eventually got around to buying LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows on DVD, when I was thirteen), and until years later (meaning now)... Now, I'm a proud LarryBoy fan, and the LarryBoy Fanatic, of course!

And can you imagine? This whole thing started with LarryBoy and the Angry Eyebrows as a Pay-Per-View movie!
